Deep Restoration: Self Care for the Massage Therapist

We cannot effectively take care of others if we do not take good care of ourselves. Massage therapists are the ultimate caretakers. We use our body, mind and energy to help our clients feel better. This inevitably leads to excess tension stored in our own systems. This class will give you a variety of tools and techniques to restore yourself on every level.  You will learn an essential set of deeply restorative yoga postures, down-regulating core-strengthening breath work, and Roll Model Method ® therapy ball techniques to help you reduce stress, erase pain, release tension, enhance proprioception and create a pervasive sense of wellbeing.  Though it is designed with Massage Therapists in mind, this class would be appropriate for anyone who finds themselves in the role of care taker including teachers, parents and medical professionals. Take care of yourself well, so you can continue to take great care of those who rely on you.

 

 

Posture and Flexibility: Self Care for the Massage Therapist

Massage therapists use the strength and alignment our bodies to provide therapeutic touch to our clients. When this is done with proper alignment it can be a mutually beneficial experience.  Working on our clients can provide our own soft tissues with restorative loading and leave us feeling stronger and more integrated than when we started.  Unfortunately, our conscious minds can only process so much and when we are focused on our clients bodies we are less able to focus on our own. When we work with poor posture and restricted movement we end up with excess tension and strain in our own soft tissues. This is why it is important for our dynamic alignment to be reflexive. If we don’t have to think about it, we don’t have to worry about it. This course will introduce you to an evaluation of the 7 fundamentals of efficient human movement and provide you with a variety of techniques to help you maximize your capacity for reflexive stabilization from foot to core to cranium, so that you can focus more on the body work you’re providing and less on your biomechanics.  Though it is designed with Massage Therapists in mind, this class would be appropriate for anyone who could use more reflexive stability and functional range of motion in their lives.
